Without question, one of these is Ransom E. Olds.

Olds was born in 1864 in Geneva, Ohio and it’s hard to tell how the early days of auto making would have unfolded if he didn’t decide to devote himself to the industry.

According to Olds himself he engineered his first car in 1894, a steam engine model. He went on to found Olds Motor Works in 1897, and it was located in Lansing, Michigan which is where he passed away on August 26, 1950 at the ripe old age of 86.

Ransom Olds saw a lot of automotive history during his days, and the company that he founded stayed in business for 107 years, churning out over 35 million cars during that time. The last production year for Oldsmobile was 2004 and for many classic car fans it is still hard to accept life without this historic automotive brand.

The good news is that the Oldsmobile tradition is still alive and well in the form of the classic Oldsmobiles that grace the roadways and stand on display in museums around the country. With this in mind, if you are a classic Oldsmobile fan or a classic car fan in general you should definitely consider visiting the R.E. Olds Museum in Lansing.

The museum houses thousands of one-of-a-kind artifacts as well as a collection of 52 classic vehicles that will really blow your mind. Ransom Olds founded the REO automotive brand as well as Oldsmobile, so you’ll see some REO vehicles in the collection, including a 1923 REO Speedwagon.

The Olds Museum is open all year around and admission is $6 for adults and $4 for students. To get all the details, simply visit the R.E. Olds Museum website.

It was quite a game and the city got a chance to shine on the world stage.

Every NFL city would like to have a Super Bowl at some point in time but the game is generally awarded to teams that are located in cities that have weather that is mild during the beginning of February.

The exception to this is domed stadiums or stadiums with retractable roofs. So, Indianapolis was able to host the Super Bowl because of building a truly fantastic facility: Lucas Oil Stadium.

This facility is mind-boggling, and it is going to be the site of an event that should be of great interest to classic car fans.

Mark the dates March 22 through March 24 on your calendar because this is when the 14th Annual Hot Rod & Restoration Trade Show is going to be held at Lucas Oil Stadium.

If you are into hot rods either as an interested amateur or a professional in any capacity this is a trade show that you absolutely must attend.

After the grand opening breakfast there will be networking events, educational opportunities galore including manufacturers training sessions and workshops, and countless exhibitions by all the top names in the industry.

If you want to put your finger on the pulse of what is going on in the hot rod community the 2012 Hot Rod & Restoration Trade Show is the place to be. Indianapolis is a great town to visit and of course it is synonymous with the need for speed on four wheels and it is the perfect backdrop for an absolutely spectacular event.

To get all the details swing by the 2012 Hot Rod & Restoration Trade Show website!

For all his iconic moments, from the martini drinking, to the wooing of women, and driving spectacularly sleek cars, this particular model is likely the most iconic Bond car of them all.

The 1964 Aston Martin DB5 first appeared as a Bond car in Goldfinger, but has since made several top car lists. Those who love classic cars, and even those who don’t know much about them, can certainly find one thing in common: a mutual respect for a car whose smooth curvatures and status make it impossible to deny its place in classic car history.

With the inline 6 cylinder engine coming in at a 282 bhp rating at 2500 rpm, this beloved car reached a top speed of about 142 mph, and while that may not be an impressive number now, it certainly turned heads nearly half a century ago. If the driver needed a fast getaway in close-call situations like Bond, the car could go 0-60 in about 7.5 seconds. Making this car just that much more special was the low production number, made during its short production life, which lasted from 1963-1965.

While just any 1964 Aston Martin DB5 may not have all the gizmos and gadgets that Bond’s famous car did, it will always hold a special place in our hearts as one of the most beautifully made Aston Martin models in classic car history.

Perhaps the most coveted of all classic American cars when you consider all the factors is the Chevrolet Corvette. This is the car that just about everyone has dreamed of owning at one point in his or her life, and each and every model year has been a head turner.

It all started out in the imagination of the legendary automotive designer Harley Earl. After World War II he saw a lot of veterans bringing back European sports cars and he dreamed of developing an American car that had the same type of power, quality, and panache.

His ambition was given form when the Chevrolet Corvette was released by General Motors for the 1953 model year and the legend of the Corvette has grown ever since.

Collector car fans will want to take note of the fact that 2013 is the 60th anniversary of the Chevrolet Corvette’s introduction to the American automotive arena. General Motors has something huge in store in the form of the 2013 Corvette 427 Convertible Collector Addition. They’re bringing back the 427 cubic inch LS7 V8 that is rated at an incredible 505 hp with 470 pound-feet of torque.

The car first made its debut at the Barrett-Jackson collector car auction that took place in Scottsdale, Arizona on January 21. They are expected to hit the dealerships this summer and you can bet that there will be a lot of people anxiously awaiting their arrival.

When you examine classic cars of the past and you see the sticker prices they seem miniscule now and you find yourself wishing that you had the foresight to pick one of these up when you had the chance. Well, here’s your chance to make an investment in a truly collectible, quality American motor vehicle.

But if you were to conduct a poll and ask classic car aficionados about their top 10 of all time, the Ford Mustang would probably be on everybody’s list.

These cars took America by storm after being introduced at the 1964 World’s Fair in New York and they have been a part of the American landscape ever since. In fact, the Mustang is still going strong and the latest models are absolute head turners.

If you are a true fan of classic Mustangs you absolutely must tune into the Operation
Mustang series. This is a set of videos that is being produced by “The Doc” Chris
Ingrassia, who is the owner of Mustang Restoration, Inc. which in located East Dundee, IL.

He is considered to be one of the foremost Mustang restoration experts in the world and the work that he and his staff are able to put out is clearly done with surgical precision and that is where he got his nickname.

New Operation Mustang episodes are released bi-weekly on Sunday mornings at 9:30 am, and these shows are not to be missed if you are interested in the restoration of classic Mustangs. If you are someone who likes to roll up his sleeves and work on these cars you will walk away with some incredible information. And even if you are not one to turn the wrench for yourself you’ll find these videos to be a lot of fun to watch.

Operation Mustang is a force to be reckoned with in the classic car community and we give
it our highest recommendation!

Those were the years of Three Dog Night, the (temporary) beginning of the end of The Doors, and President Nixon. In the world of classic cars, muscle cars, and all things car-related, it was a great year.

The 1971 Datsun 240 Z made quite a splash in the United States sports car market, and according to ConceptCarz.com, “Road and Truck said ‘it was the most exciting GT in a decade.’” However, the car wasn’t exactly readily available for those looking to purchase one. After its launch, it had a seven-month waiting list full of people grappling to get their hands on one. Those lucky enough to get one paid around $3, 596 in 1971 dollars, which equates to about $19,803 and change today.

Under the hood, an inline 6 cylinder engine whirred, producing 150 horsepower with a displacement size of 2393 cc. The 240 Z had four-wheel independent suspension and overhead cams with twin carburetors. Needless to say, relative to its other sports car counterparts, this car provided a low-cost option for those hoping to own a sports car.

The company is famous for its consistency and reliability, and though it’s designs may seem to vary only slightly at times, this German automaker has certainly mastered its craft and created a number of truly memorable cars.

The Porsche 356 was the first production made car for Porsche. Production began in 1948 and continued through 1966, with mostly subtle changes among the different model years. The 2-door sports car was available as a coupe and a convertible during its lifespan and underwent more practical functional updates than styling ones. Toward the beginning of its production, between 1950 and 1954, it contained a 1086 cc OHV Flat 4 engine, giving it a horsepower of 46. A few tweaks later, a 1488 cc engine gave the car a boost to between 64 and 82 horsepower.

A few years later, the 356B, which was produced from 1960-1963 and sold for a little over $4,000 at the time had a horsepower rating of between 70-102 and weighed in hovering around 1 ton. To round out the production years, by the time the final model rolled around, the car was fitted with a 1582 cc OHV Flat 4 engine, boosting the horsepower to 88-170, though the price remained largely the same, still just over $4,000 new.

The car enjoyed a good deal of success in the racing world whether it was close to stock or highly modified (whether that mean they were stripped down in weight or modified for better performance), and Porsche once again earned its right to a place in history as the maker of beauties like the 356 which were improved, but not so drastically changed as to negatively affect their performance.

As you take in the waves lapping at your toes, which wiggle happily in the shallow water, you turn to see your closest friends unloading their surf boards and a cooler. It’s the summer sometime in the 1960s, and you couldn’t be happier to be on a tour of the West Coast in your Voltswagen Beetle.

This particular vintage car is often associated with days gone by, where peace and love reigned free. It was the time of Woodstock, the Beatles, and an impressive focus on just having fun. Perhaps what made these vehicles so unique was their easily distinguishable design. Of course, they did lack in power or speed in comparison to many vehicles of their day, but who can deny the fun? The 1967 Votswagen Beetle was significantly upgraded from the previous year’s model, but still had only a 54 horsepower rating, up 4 from the 1966 model. The braking system, rear axle, and flywheel all enjoyed a few changes as well. The vehicle had a four-speed manual transmission and weighed in at slightly under a ton, at 1,900 pounds.

Sometimes, we don’t always realize how good we have it. The 1967 model finally came with new standard equipment, such as widescreen wipers, an armrest on the driver’s side door, reverse lights, lock buttons on the doors, and even an exterior mirror on the passenger side. Today, of course, the very thought of not having those items is nearly unimaginable.

For vintage car lovers, though, often it’s the memories that make the cars so special, rather than speed or power on the roads. What better car to hold a piece of the past than the iconic Volkswagen Beetle?

When you are a collector car enthusiast getting behind the wheel of one of your classics and going on a road trip is a lot of fun, especially when your destination involves indulging your passion in vintage automobiles and trucks.

With the above in mind, if you want to have the automotive experience of a lifetime you should consider making the trek to Los Angeles to visit the Peterson Automotive Museum.

This shrine to the automobile was created by Margie and Robert E. Petersen back in 1994 and it has gotten bigger and better with each passing year. The space encompasses a sprawling 3000 square feet and there are over 150 hard to find, vintage motor vehicles on display at any given time.

Current exhibitions being offered at the Peterson Automotive Museum include an examination of scooters, a look at super cars, the automobile as it relates to Southern California, cars of film and television, alternative powered cars, and the Hot Wheels Hall of Fame.

The Peterson Automotive Museum is open from Tuesday through Sunday and the hours of operation are 10 am to 6 pm. They make it very affordable for classic car fans with admission prices of just $10 for adults, $8 for seniors, $5 for students, and $3 for children. The museum is located at 6060 Wilshire Blvd. in Los Angeles, California.

Without question a visit to the Peterson Automotive Museum is something special if you are a collector car aficionado. For more information you can visit their website or give them a call at (323) 930-2277.
